FOR TOURISM SECTOR: MODERN SANCTUARIES
IDEA AND BACKGROUND
PILGRIMS AS TRAVELERS
Traditionally the pilgrim journeys involve some religiously or historically important object or a certain route, which they pass. Such as Jerusalem, Mecca, Santiago de Compostela and so on.
In Estonia there are not this kind of journeys. Some relations can be found with the sanctuary idea of the old religion.
The idea was to create a modern sanctuary for a “traveler” who is looking for inspiration, wants to analyze him/herself and the world. Who wants to relax, meditate and separate.
The idea also includes the option to move from one place to another, from one temple to another.
In Estonia the peculiarity of the traveling would be that the temples are in different islands.
Some of the islands, which are closer to the cities and larger settlements, provide the opportunity for a quick and brief visit to the temple. However, there would be several sanctuaries in different islands, which enable also longer journeys.
The external shape reminds the stone, the local beach stone or some more exotic gemstone whose rough outlook emphasizes naturalness and uniqueness.
Facade is made of modern technological glass, which allows to change it’s characteristics: form of the mirror glass helps to integrate to the environment, and colour effects give the spirituality and mystery feeling of the sanctuary.
